Overview of the Moore and Child Family Histories

Moore Family

William Moore (born 1773) of Hundon, Suffolk married Mary Gowers of Stansted and their son Richard Moore was born at Shimpling, near to Sudbury, Suffolk.

Richard was an agricultural labourer and for reasons unknown moved to Lincolnshire were he married a girl called Mary Robinson from Bardney.

Their son Thomas became a blacksmith and married a blacksmith’s daughter from Skellingthorpe, near Lincoln, about 15 miles away. They move to Burghwallis, near Doncaster, Yorkshire and then to Sutton 2 miles away to run a pub.

Their son John William who was a joiner married Clara Revell from Tong, Yorkshire and moved to Barwick in Elmet, where Fred Moore was born, and then to Garforth both in Yorkshire. 

Fred married Annie Child from Pudsey and they had 3 sons although one died.

The eldest son Keith married Dorothy Moore from Herefordshire. They had 4 children and ended up living in Leicestershire.

The youger son Roy married Patricia Colley from Scarborough. They had 3 children and emigrated to Australia

Child Family

The Child family were not as well travelled as the Moores. In fact they did not move from Pudsey and lived in Waterloo Road for nearly 50 years.

James Child and his wife Mary lived in Waterloo Rd, Pudsey, he was a woollen cloth manufacturer.

Their son William was a weaver and married Ellen Rhodes who was also a weaver from Waterloo Rd.

Their son Henry Child, also a weaver, married Evangelina Raistrick from Calverley, a suburb of Pudsey. They had 7 children who all worked in the woollen mills including Annie Elizabeth Child

Annie married Fred Moore.
