Child Family

 Child Family History

The Child family were not as well travelled as the Moores. In fact they did not move from Pudsey and lived in Waterloo Road for nearly 50 years.

 James Child and his wife Mary lived in Waterloo Rd Pudsey, he was a woollen cloth manufacturer.

Their son William was a weaver and married Ellen Rhodes who was also a weaver from Waterloo Rd.

 Their son Henry Child, also a weaver, married Evangelina Raistrick from Calverley, a suburb of Pudsey. They had 7 children who all worked in the woollen mills including Annie Elizabeth Child.

 Annie married Fred Moore.  

1841 James Child was living with his wife Mary in Waterloo Road, Calverley, a suburb of Pudsey. They had 4 children including William who was 10. James was a Cloth maker and his son James was a Weaver.


1851 James was still at Waterloo Road but his wife Mary had died. He was described as a Cloth Manufacturer. His son James had also lost his wife leaving 3 children.


1861 – James was now a farmer of 13 acres and a Woollen Cloth Manufacturer. His son James was a Woollen Cloth Weaver, as was William.


1865 - William Child married Ellen Rhodes.
